Christmas Stockings

Judge the opening before the length.

Size is the one thing the filters do not cover, and the numbers are not always written down either. Narrow cuffs look neat in a row but will not take a boxed gift. Go wider and one holds more, though it sags further once full. Length matters mainly next to the others beside it, because an uneven row is the first thing anyone notices. Where dimensions are given, measure them against something already on your mantel rather than against an average.

Stockings are sold one at a time.

A family row is something you assemble rather than order in one go, which is easier than it sounds because the shape stays constant. Pick one thread to hold it together, a palette, a motif family, a single silhouette and let the designs differ underneath. Buying the whole row from one seller keeps the drop even, and that is the part that shows from across the room.

A stocking behaves differently full than empty.

Weight pulls the loop straight and drops the shape lower than the photo suggests, so leave clearance between the cuff and whatever sits underneath. Mantel hooks are a separate buy and worth checking for a weight rating before anything heavier than sweets goes in. On a banister or a shelf edge, ribbon through the loop usually sits better than a hook shaped for a flat mantel lip.

Fabric varies more than the photos suggest. Plush shows up alongside knit and velvet, and none of them wash the same way, so the description is the thing to read before ordering. Names are a separate question: plenty of titles mention them, so look for a customization field rather than assuming one is there.

Designs sort into a few broad moods. Santa, snowman and reindeer scenes cover the traditional end, while funny and character-led ones sit at the other. Animals run as their own thread, and so do outdoor and camping themes. Want deep pile and stitched detail and embroidered velvet Christmas stockings is the narrower list. Dog bone stockings covers the pets, and room decor holds the rest of the room.
