3D puff print vs. 3D visual graphic shirts: Which is more durable?

The durability depends on whether the 3D effect is physical or strictly visual:

3D Puff Print: This technique uses a special screen-printing ink that expands when heated, creating a raised, spongy texture on the shirt. While physically 3D, it is prone to cracking and peeling over time after multiple trips through a hot dryer.
3D Visual Graphics: This uses flat ink to create a trompe l'oeil (optical illusion). Because the ink is usually infused directly into the fabric fibers, it has zero texture and is highly fade-resistant and durable, never cracking or peeling.

DTG (Direct-to-Garment) vs. Sublimation: Which is better for 3D optical illusions?

To achieve the hyper-realistic shading required for a visual 3D effect, manufacturers use two primary methods:

Dye-Sublimation (Best for 3D): This is the industry standard for 3D shirts. It turns ink into a gas that permeates the fabric, allowing for vibrant, all-over, edge-to-edge printing. However, it only works effectively on 100% polyester or high-poly blends.
DTG (Direct-to-Garment): Works like an inkjet printer for clothes. While it provides excellent high-definition detail and works perfectly on 100% cotton, it is typically restricted to a rectangular print area on the chest or back, lacking the immersive all-over effect of sublimation.

How do physically 3D-printed garments (TPU) feel against the skin?

Unlike the soft, woven fibers of a traditional cotton t-shirt, a physically 3D-printed shirt made from TPU feels entirely different.

Texture: It feels more like a flexible, lightweight plastic chainmail. It does not absorb moisture like cotton.
Comfort: While the TPU material itself is smooth and cool to the touch, the comfort comes from its kinematics—the interlocking 3D-printed links allow the garment to drape and bend fluidly with your body's movements. They are highly porous and breathable by design.

Are 3D printed or 3D graphic shirts machine washable?

To maintain the 3D effect, strict care instructions must be followed based on the shirt type:

For 3D Graphic & Puff Print Shirts: Always turn the garment inside out to protect the graphics from friction. Use a gentle machine wash with cold water. Heat is the enemy of both puff ink and polyester, so air drying is strongly recommended over tumble drying.
For TPU 3D-Printed Garments: These should generally be hand-washed in lukewarm water with mild soap. The interlocking plastic links can be damaged or warped by the aggressive agitation and high heat of standard washing machines and dryers.
